How much does it cost a business to obtain an eco-label?

A few thousand euros.
Businesses do have to pay out certain costs to obtain an eco-label: application fee, audit inspection, brand use rights, product testing, etc. These costs can reach several thousand euros per year. The costs are proportional to the business's net sales of its eco-labelled products and are capped at an annual subscription fee of €25,000 (European Eco-label) or €9,000 ("NF Environnement" mark) per product category, however many products are covered and however much each product generates in terms of net sales. The costs will be lower for businesses that have already implemented a quality management system together with procedures for monitoring its production. For the business, eco-labelling represents an investment aimed at promoting its products. As eco-labelling targets products intended for large-scale distribution, the costs involved in certification are recovered fairly rapidly and only have a minor impact on the product's final selling price.
