What is it used for?
The EU Eco-label scheme is used to identify environmentally-friendly products and services. EU Eco-label criteria guarantee that a given product is fit for use, and that it will have a reduced environmental impact throughout its life cycle.
The label covers both the product and its packaging where product certification is concerned.
The EU Eco-label certifies that a given product and/or service is conform with the requirements set out in the guidelines applying to each category of products or services.
This marking scheme meets both:
- the need for reliable information on the ecological quality of products or services,
- the desire of certain businesses to promote their environmental protection initiatives through the use of labelled products or service activities.
