Created in 1991, the "NF Environnement" mark is the French eco-label delivered by AFNOR Certification, an independent certification body. It is a voluntary certification mark covering products and services. Any business wishing to acquire this mark may file an application.
The mark aims to certify that a given product or service conforms with the requirements set out in the specifications (or guidelines) covering the products' user quality and environmental quality.
The purpose of the "NF Environnement" mark is to certify that the products or services to which it is affixed have a reduced environmental impact at every stage of their life cycle, while offering equivalent user quality compared with other similar products or services available on the market.
It is governed by a reference document, 'General Rules of the "NF Environnement" Mark', revised on 15 April 2005.
