AFNOR Certification is not the sole decision-maker regarding which product categories are eligible for the "NF Environnement" mark. It is supported by an advisory body, the French Eco-labelling Committee, which comprises 17 members distributed among four colleges.
1) Industries and Distributors College: 6 members representing trade and enterprise.
2) Associations College: 6 members representing environmental protection and consumer defence associations.
3) Administrations College: 3 members representing the Ministries of the Environment, Industry and Consumer Affairs.
4) Technical Bodies College: ADEME (French Environment and Energy Management Agency).
This make-up ensures parity between the Industries and Distributors College and the Associations College.
